It was the most awarded film at Cannes (Best Director, Best Actor) and won two Golden Globes (Best Performance, Best Non-English Film).
Brazil, 1977. Marcelo, a technology expert and widower, is on the run. As the military dictatorship imposes increasingly brutal measures on the population, he arrives in Recife, where he hopes to reunite with his son. There, during Carnival week, he finds refuge with a group of like-minded people and assumes a false identity. But Marcelo’s situation is more dire than he realizes: he soon realizes that the city is far from the peaceful refuge he seeks. For his phenomenal performance, lead actor Wagner Moura has been nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars. The film is also in competition for Best Motion Picture and Best International Feature Film.
